About SeStructures
A small aerospace structures consultancy in Sarasota, Florida, built around finite element modeling done carefully and the automation that keeps it affordable.
Ian Rivard
Structural analyst and founder of SeStructures LLC. Ian's work is finite element analysis of aerospace structures — spacecraft and payload structures, aircraft components and installations, and the modifications and repairs that keep fleets flying — in FEMAP with NX/Simcenter Nastran and MSC Nastran.
Most of that work is shell models: idealizing solid CAD into shell models that are simple enough to run and iterate, and accurate enough to defend. Every one of them is checked against a solid mesh of the same geometry, which is both a habit and the reason the Shell Mesh Service exists.
Ian is a co-author of Engineering Tools, a free, open-source suite of FEMAP/Nastran productivity tools used by the FEMAP/Nastran community, and he contributes FEMAP API scripts to the community under the SeStructures name. The same philosophy runs through the consulting: give the repetitive work to the computer, keep the judgement with the engineer.
